Flooding in January 2024

We found a last minute Pet/House sit from August 31st to Sept 5th in Tewkesbury which was about 25 mins from our Worcester House sit. It was for a Spaniel called Ludo and the home was situated right on the banks of the River Avon. The River Avon joins the River Severn by a Lock just up river from us. We were located next to the Marina.

The hosts were really nice and the house was beautiful! We had lots of nice walks with Ludo on both sides of the river and through town.

Tewkesbury is an old Cotswold medieval market town with an Abbey, situated on the River Avon close to the River Severn. Some of the houses and pubs date back to the late 1400's

The river was significant in the commercial development of the town. The large industrial flour mill site, built in 1865 stands near the confluence of the Avon and Severn rivers, where barges were used to transport goods. The mill, known as Healing's Mill (and previously owned by Allied Bakeries) closed for milling in 2006. Flooding has been getting worse in last few years possibly due to global warming.

The Severn Ham is an old Island between the Severn and Avon Rivers and was originally common land but has been owned by varuious Manors, Abbies and estates for over 1000 years.
